Obsessive behaviour

A lady with a severe face picking obsession, which she had for fifteen years had come to the stage where it was making her depressed and damaging her relationship with her partner. After the first work session she asked to make another appointment. I told her that it had been a very good session and felt she would not need another. She was shocked and told me she did not believe she could solve her problem as quickly as that so she made a second appointment. The next day she rang to say to her surprise I had been right and she now felt she did not need to see me again and asked if she could cancel the appointment.

Fear of thunder and lightning

A lady in her sixties came to me with a severe phobia of thunder and lightening. She had been suffering for more than thirty years. It was affecting her whole life. She would have to check the weather six times a day on teletext, not just on one channel but on all of them. After two sessions she rang me and asked me if I knew what sort of weekend we had. There had been a severe thunderstorm. She had coped and now felt, although she did not like thunder, it was no longer a problem.

Panic attack

A young man had been suffering from panic attacks for six years. He was frightened to go anywhere in case he had one. After just one session he rang to say for the first time in six years he felt contented. He had been to places that would have normally made him anxious but he had stayed relaxed and calm. He felt he could go anywhere.
